After the conquest of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible, local villages began to be transferred to service people, including Mordovian elders and Tatar murzas. One such murza, Begovat, received two villages, which became known as Begovatovo and Maloe Begovatovo, Anuchino. Around 1620, a wooden church in honor of Florus and Laurus was built in Begovatovo, and the village received the status of a selo.

In the 18th century, the landowners Alexeevs appeared in the village, descendants of Stepan Danilovich Alexeev-Luchinin, a participant in the Russo-Polish War of 1654-1667. His grandson, Ivan Antonovich Alexeev, a state councilor, served as consul in Bordeaux, France, under Peter I. Peter Alexandrovich Alexeev, the grandson of Ivan Antonovich, was born in 1776 and was the district leader of Arzamas. It is believed that in 1812 he was involved in the collection and arming of militia for the war against Napoleon. It is assumed that he built the stone church in Begovatovo in 1796 and adorned the village with ponds. The first priest in the church was Dmitry Georgievsky. The ponds were dug by serf peasants. F.P. Alexeev died in Begovatovo and was buried near the church on the eastern side of the altar at a distance of no more than 10 meters. The gravestone has not survived to this day.
