In the 18th century, the church was under the administration of the Vyatka diocese, and the main information about its construction can be found in the State Archive of the Kirov Region in the funds of the Vyatka Spiritual Consistory. The construction of the Odigitrievskaya church began in 1758 thanks to the efforts of the monks of the Sherya Odigitrievsky Monastery. According to historian I. Shestakov from the Perm diocese, the monastery was founded in 1675 and was under the administration of the Vyatka bishops. It housed 770 peasants provided by the Stroganovs. The monastery existed for 89 years and was abolished in 1764. After that, the stone church was built slowly at the expense of the parish peasants. In the summer of 1778, the church was nearly completed, but soon after the supporting structures were removed, the vault collapsed. This attracted the attention of the Vyatka Spiritual Consistory. It turned out that the construction was led by Grigory Penkin, who left for Kazan without finishing the work. Grigory Maslennikov was then invited, who completed the first vault in 1777.

In March 1778, construction was headed by Fedot Suvorov, a renowned stone master from the Vyatka province. He took on the obligation to complete the construction for 90 rubles but could not explain the reason for the vault's collapse. The consistory ruled to recover money from him for poor workmanship, but due to his poverty, this was impossible.

After the disaster, the top of the church was rebuilt, as seen from the altered pilasters and windows. For over 150 years, the church served as a parish church for the peasants of Sherya and nearby volosts of the Okhansky district. In 1831, the church is mentioned in the 'Brief Chronicle' of the Okhan deanery by Grigory Pyankov. In 1830, the parish had 1,503 households and 12,228 parishioners, with an income of 1,200 rubles.

In 1854, engineer Kappachio discovered cracks in the walls and bell tower. Architect G. Letuchiy confirmed the danger and suggested dismantling the bell tower and reinforcing the church. Archbishop Neofit of Perm proposed to entrust the design to Kappachio, and in 1855 it was decided to build a new bell tower. In 1856, the project was approved, but due to arrears, construction was postponed. In 1858, permission for construction was obtained, and work began in 1859. The contract was awarded to Pyotr Muravyov, and the stone masonry was performed by Andrey Vasilyev Mayorov.

In 1863, the work was completed, and the church continued to function. In 1894, it served 5,458 parishioners, and in 1917, it belonged to the sixth deanery district. In 1923, a clergy congress was held in the church to discuss the renewal of the church. In 1934, the church was closed, and in 1940, its building was used for other purposes.

In 1990, the revival of the church began, and in 1993 it was recognized as a monument of architecture. Restoration work continued until 1998. By 1996, local residents and benefactors actively participated in the restoration. In 1999, a Divine Liturgy was held in the renovated church. Father Mark played a special role in the revival. In 2000, the church was included in the State Register of Monuments of the Perm Region.
