Frequent floods on the Angara River caused significant damage to the households of the parishioners of the Trinity Church. To avoid such disasters, the parishioners decided to build a church in honor of Saint George of Neocaesarea the Miracle Worker. The wooden structure of the church was laid on September 8, 1802. After a few years, it became dilapidated and unsuitable for worship. The floods of 1829-1830 particularly damaged the building, and the provincial architect A.V. Vasilyev recognized it as "very dilapidated and prone to rapid destruction." Repairs were impossible, as it required dismantling the building to its foundation, reinforcing the foundation, and rebuilding it anew. From August 23, 1836, the church was closed by order of the Spiritual Consistory. However, the elder of the Trinity Church, Y.S. Malkov, gathered the necessary funds for repairs, and in 1844 the church was restored. On June 4, 1845, during the Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Neil re-consecrated the Church of George of Neocaesarea.

However, as early as 1862, the clerical records noted the need for significant repairs to the church. Through the efforts of parishioner Peter Stepanovich Ivelsky, the construction of a separate stone building for the church in the name of George of Neocaesarea began, which was completed by mid-1863. On June 2, it was consecrated by Archbishop Parthenius and Bishop Benjamin of Selenginsk, with the participation of three archimandrites. The alley next to the church became known as Georgievsky. This is one of the preserved, albeit altered, buildings designed by the famous Irkutsk architect A.I. Losev, executed in the style of late classicism and representing a stone rotunda structure.

After the fire of 1879, which engulfed the central part of the city, the Church of George, Bishop of Neocaesarea, was completely rebuilt and repurposed as a charitable institution. In the late 20th century, a decision was made to restore the church, which is part of the Trinity Church complex, according to the project of Irkutsk architect A. Polikarpokhin.
