The "Chronicle of the Serafimo-Diveevo Monastery" describes the prophecy of St. Seraphim of Sarov, according to which the parish stone church, built in 1780 by Mother Alexandra in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, would eventually become part of the monastery, and a new church would be built for the parishioners in another location. This prophecy came true: the former parish church in the village of Diveevo became the Kazan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Serafimo-Diveevo Monastery, and a new church in honor of St. Elizabeth the Martyr is being created for the laity.

In 1988, a church parish was registered in Diveevo, and a wooden house was acquired near the holy spring of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God for its needs. On April 22, Archbishop Nikolai of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas consecrated the house church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. However, soon after the revival of the monastery, this church also came under the administration of the Serafimo-Diveevo Monastery. Local residents long sought permission to build a new parish church in Diveevo.

On March 11, 2004, the "Orthodox Religious Community in the Name of St. Elizabeth the Great Martyr" was established in Diveevo. On March 17, 2004, Bishop Georgy signed the protocol of the founding meeting of the community and approved its Charter. On May 7, 2004, the community was officially registered with the Nizhny Novgorod regional department of the Ministry of Justice of Russia. It was decided to build the church on the site of two old houses at the intersection of Yubileinaya and Arzamasskaya streets. On July 18, 2004, on the feast day of St. Elizabeth the Martyr, the first moleben with an akathist in honor of the heavenly patroness of the future church was served at house No. 19 on Arzamasskaya Street.

On June 19, 2005, Bishop Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas laid the first stone for the new church, served a moleben, and consecrated the laid stone. By the winter of 2005, the construction of the Elizabethan church was mostly completed. On December 10, 2005, Bishop Georgy consecrated the domes and crosses of the parish church, and on December 14, their installation began. During the preparation of the architectural project, it was decided to arrange another chapel in honor of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the site of the planned refectory, which made the church two-altar. On December 29, 2007, bells were delivered from Yaroslavl. On January 16, 2008, Archbishop Georgy held a brief moleben for the consecration of the bells. On March 8, 2008, 12 bells were raised to the bell tower of the Elizabethan church, the largest of which, weighing about 1900 kilograms, was made in Tutayev, Yaroslavl region. On August 11, 2008, Archbishop Georgy consecrated the Altar in the lower chapel of the church in honor of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. On February 26, 2013, the installation of the iconostasis, made by specialists from the Moscow artel "Novo-Simonovskaya," began in the upper church, which is planned to be consecrated in honor of St. Elizabeth Feodorovna the Martyr.
