The village of Filimonovo is located on the banks of the Sotma River, 14 versts from the district town and 120 from the provincial center. Since the early 17th century, it has belonged to the Pereslavl Nikitsky Monastery. The land records from that time mention that there was already a church of the Holy Martyr Demetrius, built of wood. It housed a Deesis, royal gates, local icons, vestments, and books, all part of the monastery's property. The wooden church was noted in the village inventory of 1702 and existed until 1809.

In 1809, parishioners built a stone church with a bell tower on the site of the wooden church. The church has two altars: a cold one in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica and a warm chapel in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. The royal gates of the main church feature a carving of the Last Supper. The church is well-equipped with utensils, a vestry, holy icons, and liturgical books. The Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God is especially venerated, which, according to local tradition, was found at a spring outside the village, where a procession is held annually on June 26, and the icon of the Mother of God "Soften My Sorrows," painted in memory of the village's deliverance from cholera in 1848.

All church documents are preserved: copies of the metric books since 1791 and confession lists since 1823. The church does not have its own clergy; services are conducted by the clergy from the village of Filippovsky. The annual income of the clergy amounts to 460 rubles, including interest from capital, income from land, and services.

The church has 2 desyatinas of homestead land and 33 desyatinas of arable and haymaking land. There is a plan and boundary book for the land, except for the homestead. The arable land is rented out, while the haymaking land is used by the clergy. The parish includes only the village of Filimonovo, where the clerical records list 198 men and 243 women, all Orthodox. There is also a school in the village.
