According to documents, the construction of the cold Dmitrievskaya church began in 1651. However, some sources attribute the temple to the early 18th century, indicating 1711 in the clerical records. It is likely that in 1710-1711, a warm side church was added to the northern part of the building, which was dismantled in the 1750s, and a bell tower was erected from the northwest.

The Church of Dmitry Prilutsky became one of the first stone structures in Vologda after the Polish-Lithuanian devastation and nearly 80 years of construction pause. Due to a lack of local craftsmen, the clients turned to renowned Yaroslavl architects Boris Nazarov and Pankrat Timofeev. The architecture of the building reflects the style of the Yaroslavl school: it is a two-story, five-domed, and four-pillar cathedral-type church on a traditional basement, without a refectory. Its cubic shape with five small domes and onion-shaped cupolas, adorned with stars, looks austere.

The facade decor, characteristic of Yaroslavl monuments of the mid-17th century, is marked by simplicity: corner pilasters, windows without frames, three large arches on each side, and simple arcature on the drums. Instead of traditional covered galleries, a closed porch was added from the west in 1781, with an altar in the name of Saint Maximus, a sacristy, and a staircase in the center.

To the left of the cold church is a small bell tower.

The interior of the cold church of Dmitry Prilutsky is adorned with wall paintings, the themes of which, especially on the domes and vaults, almost completely repeat the frescoes of the Church of John the Baptist in Roschenye. The painting was likely completed in 1721, although some sources indicate 1710. The workshop of painters was possibly led by one of the icon painters who worked in the Annunciation Church in Yaroslavl, Fyodor Ignatiev or Fyodor Fedorov. The wall painting is done in the baroque style, characteristic of F. Fedorov's manner.

The most revered icons in the church were two icons of the Mother of God: "Semigorodnaya" and "Semistrelnaya." The church also housed icons copied from miraculous ones, one of which, by the work of the Venerable Dionysius Glushitsky, was in the Semigorodnaya men's monastery, and the other in the rural parish church of John the Theologian on the Toshna River in Vologda County. In 1831, during a cholera epidemic, the originals of these icons were transferred to Vologda and were kept in the Dmitrievskaya church. That same year, residents created lists, copies of these icons in memory of the end of the epidemic. The first icon is named Semigorodnaya after the district where the Semigorodnaya men's monastery was located, and the second, Semistrelnaya, due to the seven arrows depicted on the icon piercing the heart of the Mother of God.

Today, the Church of Dmitry Prilutsky on Navolok has been fully restored. The consecration of the church took place on July 13, 2001, after an all-night vigil the day before.
