The village of Volokhovo, also known as Borisoglebskoye, was previously named Aleshkov and is located on the river Gorel Krest, which is also called Goren-Krest. According to local legend, there once stood a monastery here, destroyed during the Time of Troubles. On the bank, the Poles burned a cross, which gave the river its name. In 1699, the patriarchal records mention "the church in the estate of Zhdan Vasilyevich Telitsin in the Pereslavl-Zalessky district in Gulyatin on the wasteland, where there was the village of Borisoglebskoye-Aleshkov and Volokhovo." The wooden church in honor of the Martyrs, the righteous princes Boris and Gleb, was consecrated in 1700. In 1777, the church was rebuilt, retaining the name of the main altar. In 1782, the altars of Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, and the Great Martyr Barbara were consecrated.

In 1805, with the funds of landowner A.A. Baskakov and his brothers, the construction of the current stone church of the Holy Righteous Princes Boris and Gleb began. During the digging of trenches for the foundations, graves with remnants of monastic clothing were discovered. In 1831, the main altar was consecrated. Next to the church lies the grave of historian, local historian, and bibliographer Nikolai Semyonovich Stromilov and his father.

In the 1930s, the church was closed, and in the 1960s, it was partially destroyed. Even in the late 1990s, it was in a state of neglect, but in recent years, local residents have begun its restoration.
