The Annunciation Church in the city is one of the oldest and is located on a high bank of the Yarani River in the southern part of the city park. Built in 1653, it belonged to the male Ascension Monastery, which operated from 1648 to 1764. According to documents from the mid-18th century, the monastery owned three churches: a wooden Ascension Church with an Ilyinsky chapel and two stone churches, the Annunciation and the Archangel Michael. These two stone churches were connected by a bell tower.

The Ascension Church was lost when the Yaran Ascension Church, presumably wooden, burned down in 1798. In 1891, the bell tower and the Annunciation Church were dismantled, and the bricks were used to build the new Alexander Nevsky Church. At the same time, the Archangel Michael Church was converted into a warm church. Stoves were installed, and the monastery was abolished in 1764 under Catherine II.

The Archangel Michael Church became the center of the parish, named after the Annunciation. Over time, the church itself also began to be called the Annunciation Church. Merchant Fyodor Yakovlevich Roshchin donated 1000 rubles for its maintenance until 1917. The altar in the church was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The church was surrounded by a wooden fence, and ancient burials were located inside.

In 1929, the church building was transferred to the library of the professional club. During the period of persecution against the church, the Annunciation Church was abandoned, although it was listed as a monument of republican significance. It stored gardening tools and even had a summer reading room. Nearby were dance and sports grounds.

The church deteriorated, but in 2000, at the initiative of the local Orthodox community, the church was transferred to the Assumption Cathedral. Repairs began with the roof: the dome was covered with copper, and the building with galvanized iron. The floors, window blocks, doors were updated, and a new heating system was installed. A beautiful fence appeared around it. Major repairs were completed in 2004, and on February 12, a solemn consecration took place. Since then, services have resumed in the church. In 2007, Priest Alexander Kolevatykh became the rector, who was entrusted with the construction of brick porches and a bell tower.

A new milestone was the decision of the Yaran Diocese to open a women's monastery at the church. On December 17, 2014, a ceremony was held to introduce the nuns of the monastery.

The Annunciation Church, a jewel of ancient Russian stone architecture, was built in the style of Moscow Baroque from red brick. The church is a pillarless, two-light, single-domed square with a semicircular apse and refectory. The dome, replaced with an iron one after 1917, consists of eight parts and is crowned with a faceted drum with false window openings. The interior space is divided into naves by columns. The apse is located to the east, and to the west, a stone porch. The facade is decorated with window frames with decorative elements and wrought-iron grilles. The central entrance is highlighted by a carved portal, and cornices with 'drying racks' support the pediments.
