The construction date of the Annunciation Church in Kasimov is unknown, but it is first mentioned in the land books of 1627. The church is located next to the Assumption Church and was built in 1740 thanks to the efforts of priest Fyodor Ioannov and the parishioners, at the very entrance to the city from the Oka River. Initially, the church had one chapel in honor of the holy apostle and evangelist John the Theologian. Several remarkable events are associated with the church. For example, on January 27, 1775, priest Fyodor informed the bishop Palladius about a fire at the royal gates on the right side. The fire caused significant damage, but it was extinguished thanks to the efforts of the priest and parishioners. In 1784, a second chapel was added on the left side in honor of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple. In 1792, the church was planned to be partially dismantled and moved to Bread Square, but the parishioners and merchant Prokhor Maksimovich Kartashov appealed to the diocesan authorities not to do so. Many signatures were collected, and the consistory, after reviewing the documents, supported the parishioners, although the construction of a new church had already begun. Traces of this construction were visible for a long time, and later a small chapel was built on that site. In 1867, the church was expanded, and the chapels were rebuilt with the funds of the parishioners who sought to beautify their church. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, revered as miraculous, was kept in the church. The icon had an inscription stating that it was written on December 3, 1727, by hierodeacon Alimpiy Nikiforov of the Kasimov Nicholas Monastery. The appearance of the icon in the city was miraculous. Initially, it was located in the Kasimov magistrate, where it appeared miraculously, and was later transferred to the Annunciation Church. The icon repeatedly saved Kasimov from fires, as reported by the Ryazan diocesan news. The icon had a silver-gilded riza, but after the revolution, it was taken to a local museum, and traces of the icon were lost. The church was closed on November 20, 1939, and fell into disrepair. Worship services resumed on December 28, 1994. The chapels include the main Annunciation chapel, the right one in honor of the holy apostle and evangelist John the Theologian and the venerable Sergius of Radonezh, and the left one in honor of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple and the prophet of God Elijah.
