The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Matrosskaya Tishina Street was built in 1906 for the soldiers and officers of the Sapper Battalion of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment, whose barracks were located in the block between the street and Popov Lane.

For a long time, this part of the Sokolniki district remained undeveloped, with a large Sokolnicheskoye field stretching almost the entire area between Stromynka Street and the Yauza River. Since the late 18th century, the field was used for military exercises conducted in warm weather. In the southeastern part of the field, a military parade ground was created for the 2nd Carabinier Regiment. In the early 20th century, barracks for the Sapper Battalion were built on the site of the parade ground. The red-brick barracks (Matrosskaya Tishina St., 10) have partially survived to this day and continue to be used by the military unit.

The Annunciation Church was built according to a standard design from 1901, specifically developed for military churches. It is the only church in Moscow built according to such a project, and about ten were constructed in Russia. The single-domed church with a tent-like bell tower is executed in the neo-Russian style with elements of ancient Russian architecture, such as window frames, kokoshniks, and overhanging eaves. The church accommodated 1,200 servicemen.

During World War I, a small military cemetery for soldiers who died in Sokolniki hospitals appeared near the church. In the Soviet years, a park was established on the site of the cemetery.

In 1923, the Annunciation Church was closed, the dome and the upper tier of the bell tower were dismantled, and the building was repurposed as a club for soldiers. Later, the building was used for various military needs.

In the early 2010s, restoration of the church began: the dome and bell tower were restored, the interior space was cleaned, a new iconostasis was installed, and the church was returned to its original appearance.

It is now an active church, belonging to the Patriarchal Representation of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia at the headquarters of the Airborne Troops.
