The church in the village of Bolshoye Murashkino was built in 1890 thanks to the efforts of local residents who belonged to the Old Believers. The architectural plan of the temple is designed in the shape of an equal-armed Byzantine cross, and the decoration of the facades and triple windows reflect the architect's desire to follow the Byzantine style. Unfortunately, the dome of the church was destroyed during the period of persecution against faith, and now only the cross, placed directly on the roof, remains on the brick building.

In the 1930s, the church was closed and gradually underwent changes for use in various secular purposes. An intermediate floor was installed inside, and the previous rich decoration completely disappeared. Before the building was handed over to the Old Believer community, it even housed a gym.

Since 1992, careful restoration work on the church began, carried out by local Christians. On March 28, 1993, the day of remembrance of Saint Martyr Agapius and his companions, an important event for the Old Believers took place. In the village of Bolshoye Murashkino, Nizhny Novgorod region, a solemn consecration of the church in the name of Saint Hieromartyr and Confessor Avvakum and his companions was held, conducted by His Eminence Alimpius, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia.
