In the 1720s, at the behest of Peter I, Yaroslavl entrepreneurs Zatrapeznovs, together with the Dutchman Tamers, established a linen factory in Yaroslavl. Later it was named the Large Manufactory and was built on land provided by the government free of charge. The factory produced high-quality products supplied to the imperial court. In 1736, Zatrapeznov laid the foundation for a church in honor of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul on the territory of the manufactory. This church was conceived as a unique work, without analogs in Russian architecture of that time. The main hall of the church was enormous and lacked vaults and pillars, being illuminated by windows arranged in two tiers. The interior of the upper church featured a magnificent baroque three-tiered iconostasis, adorned with fine carvings and covered with gold leaf. During the Soviet era, the iconostasis was lost, with only photographs remaining in the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve. Descriptions and images of the Peter and Paul Church indicate that its original appearance has hardly changed, with alterations only affecting certain details. In 1929, the church was closed, and the building was converted into a club for the Red Perekop plant, with a cinema established in the upper church, negatively impacting the preservation of the monument. The interior decoration, iconostases, and icons were lost, and the internal layout and decorative adornment of the facades were altered. In 1960, the Church of Peter and Paul was granted the status of a monument of architecture of republican, now federal significance. In 1997, the building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2008-2009, restoration of the northern, eastern, and southern facades was carried out, along with repairs to the bell tower spire. In 2010, the western facade was restored, and in 2013, the roof was recreated in the form of a wooden octagon with eight windows and a gilded cross. On the second floor, the stage was dismantled, beams were installed, and a rough floor of the solea was laid. Partial waterproofing and paving were also completed on the southern and eastern sides. In 2014-2015, restoration of the brickwork was conducted, rafter structures were reinforced, attic ceilings were restored with insulation, stucco and structures of the ceilings were restored, and painting was restored in areas of loss.
