On November 30, 1893, a charitable institution named after the Rostov merchant A.A. Zolotarev was opened in Kerch, who bequeathed 100,000 rubles for its maintenance. This institution was intended to assist elderly and needy people of the Orthodox faith and was located on the territory of the current Komsomol Park. A total of 20,000 rubles was allocated for the construction of the building of the charitable institution and the church adjacent to it. The church was planned to have a main altar in the name of the holy apostle Andrew the First-Called and a side altar in the name of the holy equal-to-the-apostles Mary Magdalene. The solemn consecration of the charitable institution and the church was conducted by the Most Reverend Martynian, Bishop of Taurida and Simferopol.

The church was dedicated to St. Andrew because Zolotarev bore this name, and also because, according to Christian history, Andrew the First-Called began his missionary journey from Kerch.

Before the October Revolution, a shelter for the helpless and homeless operated at the charitable institution, along with a clinic and a beach. In 1923, the building was transferred to a children's institution.

During the Great Patriotic War in 1941, the church was completely destroyed, as a German military unit was stationed there, which was shelled by Soviet troops.

Today, the church is being revived. In 1996, at the request of parishioners and thanks to the benevolent Father Vladimir Kraplin, a small one-story building in the Palace of Pioneers park was transferred to the Orthodox Church. At that time, Priest Nikolai Zen'kov was appointed as the rector. In August 1996, parishioners began the first restoration works. The fishing collective 'Banner of Communism' provided significant assistance in equipping the church building. The walls were painted on biblical themes. The Simferopol-Crimea Diocese acquired icons, and some were brought by parishioners.

Currently, St. Andrew the First-Called Church has another parish that has been operating in the Kerch Oncology Dispensary since 1999. A Sunday school for children and adults operates at the revived church. Since 2003, a parish newsletter has been published, highlighting church holidays. Plans are underway to create a new St. Andrew the First-Called Church. The Kerch executive committee has already decided to transfer two plots of land totaling 0.8 hectares to the church. The project for the church was developed by the Kerchproject enterprise, with architect Vladimir Nikolaevich Kusnitsyn.
