The village of Golovino was founded in 1937 near the village of Golovino and the homonymous road station for the families of female colony staff. Within an eighteen-kilometer radius, there was not a single church, except for a destroyed one, so Orthodox parishioners with children traveled to services in Vladimir. This situation could not last long, and active parishioners collected donations for the construction of a church. They appealed to Archbishop Evlogy of Vladimir and Suzdal with a request to appoint a permanent priest and build a church in honor of Ambrose of Optina.

The Archbishop blessed this initiative and in March 1997 appointed Priest Andrey Golubev as the rector of the future church. For temporary services, they chose an abandoned wooden club in the Golovino state farm. The first liturgy was conducted by Archpriest Vladimir Vedernikov on the Annunciation, April 7, 1997, introducing the future rector to the parishioners.

On August 25 of the same year, Bishop Evlogy visited Golovino and blessed the preparation and consecration of this building as a church in honor of Ambrose of Optina. Thanks to the efforts of the parishioners, a major renovation was completed in two months: the foundation, roof, partitions were strengthened, a dome, altar, iconostasis, heating, and electrical wiring were installed.

On October 23, 1997, the day of the memory of Ambrose of Optina, Archbishop Evlogy consecrated the church. From 2005 to 2009, a new church was built in the village, which was consecrated in 2009. The old wooden church is temporarily closed until further episcopal decision.
