The Church in honor of the Praise of the Most Holy Theotokos served as a warm winter church for the Prokopyevsky Cathedral. The first wooden building appeared in 1495. In 1672, by the order of the Metropolitan of Rostov, Ion, and with the funds of merchant Afanasy Guselnikov, a stone single-story temple was built with an altar in honor of Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow. In 1690, a second floor was added, consecrated in honor of the Nativity of Christ, which was connected to the cross-shaped lordly chambers by wooden passages. After the fire in 1715, the temple was restored in 1716 by Archbishop Joseph of Veliky Ustyug and Totma and consecrated in honor of Metropolitan Alexius, the Miracle Worker of Moscow. At the end of the 17th century, the Alexievskaya Church became part of the Archiepiscopal residence and was transformed into a house church. In 1820, it was again assigned to the Prokopyevsky Cathedral, and in 1821, the creation of the iconostasis for the upper floor was completed, with the participation of Prokopy and Andrey Sokolov, Peter and Nikolai Protopopov. In 1835, the iconostasis for the lower floor was made, consecrated in honor of the Cathedral of John the Baptist. In 1868, after the construction of the warm Tikhon Chapel of the Prokopyevsky Cathedral, services on the first floor of the Alexievskaya Church ceased, and this floor was repurposed for utility rooms. From 1923 to 1927, the building housed the provincial archive. In 1941, all premises of the Archiepiscopal residence were transferred to a hospital, and since 1948, it has housed a hospital for veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
