The building of this unusual church is closely adjacent to a mansion on Sverdlov Street in Kerch. Today, the Alexander Nevsky Church has been restored, is functioning, and is one of the architectural landmarks of the city.

The church in honor of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky was consecrated in 1861 and was located in the former building of the Antiquities Museum on the eastern slope of Mount Mithridates. However, in 1877, cracks appeared in the walls, and in 1883, the church was closed. In January 1884, the Kerch-Enikalsk City Duma decided to build a new building on the spacious Bosporus Square, where the stadium of the former School No. 7 is now located. While issues with land and the project were being resolved, parishioners built a temporary prayer house at 14 Bosporus Street, now 20 Sverdlov Street, at their own expense. The spacious building with eight windows and an iron roof was consecrated at the end of 1887 in honor of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky. The construction of the new church turned out to be a complicated matter, and in 1904, the city duma again rejected the request of the Spiritual Administration. Therefore, parishioners arranged the prayer house. After 1910, a two-story building for the parish school, the priest's apartment, and the clergy was built in the yard, to which a bell tower was attached.

In 1931, when the Soviet government began its fight against religion, the church was closed, and the building was handed over to the Kerch Museum. In 1951, during reconstruction, it became a two-story building. More than forty years later, in April 1993, the former church was returned to the church community of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky. The Kerch Historical and Archaeological Museum carried out restoration, returning the building to its original appearance. On Trinity Saturday in 1993, a memorial service was held in the church for the first time in a long time. However, much more needed to be done for the complete revival of the church. The first parishioners lovingly helped the rector, Archpriest Sergey Koval, among them were painters, carpenters, and plasterers.

Today, a complex with a baptistery and bell tower is being created in the inner courtyard of the Alexander Nevsky Church. A church-parish school in the name of Saints Cyril and Methodius is operating, as well as workshops, a gym, and social services. Since 2001, a church has been functioning in the Kerch colony, organized by the Alexander Nevsky parish. Priests meet weekly with the convicts, conducting discussions and services.
