The Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art is located within the historic walls of the Spaso-Andronikov Monastery. Founded in 1947, it is dedicated to ancient Russian art and bears the name of the great icon painter Andrei Rublev.

On the monastery grounds stands the oldest white-stone cathedral in Moscow, the Cathedral of the Savior Not Made by Hands, built between 1410 and 1427. This cathedral was painted by Andrei Rublev, and remnants of his frescoes have been preserved in the altar window recesses. Rublev was a monk of this monastery and was buried near the cathedral.

The museum's exhibition is housed in the Church of Archangel Michael, built in the late 17th century at the request of Evdokia Lopukhina, the first wife of Peter I. The monastery's Abbot's Corps regularly hosts exhibitions dedicated to church art from various eras.

The museum offers visitors the opportunity to explore outstanding works of art from the 11th to the 17th centuries. Its icon collection is renowned worldwide and includes significant works, including masterpieces by artists from the circle of Andrei Rublev and Dionysius, as well as works from the workshop of Metropolitan Makary and Tsar Ivan the Terrible. The art of the 17th century is particularly well represented, including the work of icon painters from the Armory and regional masters.
