Georgy Alexandrovich Chavchavadze, born in 1905 in St. Petersburg, was a pianist and composer. He was the son of Prince Alexander Zacharievich Chavchavadze and Princess Maria Pavlovna Rodzyanko-Chavchavadze. At the age of six, Georgy entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class of Professor Fedor Leshetitsky. After the October Revolution, his family emigrated abroad. Georgy gave his first concert in London in 1927. During World War II, he organized concerts in support of the Red Cross. In 1941, he performed in Boston and then in New York. In both the USA and Europe, most of his concerts were held for the benefit of the American Red Cross. Georgy died at the age of 57 along with his wife, Princess Elizabeth, in a car accident in the French Alps.
