In 1778, Abbess Margarita established a chapel that housed a highly revered icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, cherished by the people of Astrakhan, which had been kept in the monastery. The chapel was built in the ancient Russian style, had an octagonal shape, and was topped with a metal tent. The lower edge of the tent was adorned with a ring of kokoshniks, and above it was an ornate metal lantern with a gilded miniature dome and an eight-pointed cross. A stone narthex was added to the northern side of the chapel, leading into the monastery's inner courtyard. On the southern side, where Armenian Square was located before the revolution, a door with two windows on either side was made in the chapel's wall, leading from the street inside. Inside the chapel once stood a gilded iconostasis, created in 1901, with updated and new icons.
