The village of Sokolovo, located by the Kirzhach River, was a palace village. By the early 17th century, a wooden church of the Ascension of the Lord already stood here. The patriarchal books of 1628 mention the collection from its clergy: "tax 3 altyn 4 denga, by order of a grivna."

In 1726, the church was re-consecrated after a fire, during which the vestments were removed from the altar and the sacrificial table.

In March 1754, the Pereslavl Spiritual Consistory allowed to "renew the dilapidations" and repair the roof of the church. On March 27, 1775, a decree was issued to cover the roof and dome of the church. On January 25, 1777, it was ordered to send an icon of the Kazan Most Holy Theotokos from the church of the village of Sokolovo to the Pereslavl Spiritual Consistory.

In 1828, a brick church of the Ascension of the Lord with a warm Kazan chapel was built with funds from the parishioners-peasants.

The church was part of the 2nd deanery district of the Alexandrovsky district. After the parish reform in the early 1870s, it became part of the united Sobolevo-Bunakovo with the Sokolovsky parish. The rector was a priest from the village of Ivanovsky-Sobolevo. The clergy of the Sokolovsky church also served in the church of the neighboring village of Nikolsky. The cemetery was located behind the village.

In April 1922, during the campaign to confiscate church valuables, 6 pounds 39 zolotniks of silver were seized from the church of the village of Sokolovo.

On July 12, 1928, at a meeting of the church-parish council, the chairman of the church council P.G. Kabanov and the chairman of the audit commission S.M. Kulikov, both from the village of Sokolovo, were re-elected.

In 1934, the church was threatened with closure due to its allegedly emergency condition after being struck by lightning in 1932. The chairman of the collective farm, Makarov, submitted a request to the RIK on May 23, 1934, asking to consider the state of the church, as it posed a danger to people and livestock. He noted that the church council had not taken measures for repairs and suggested closing the church.

The chairman of the district executive committee instructed the chairman of the Ivanovo-Sobolevsky village council to require a group of believers to immediately carry out repairs on the building, warning that failure to complete the repairs by July 1 would lead to the closure of the church. The repairs were completed, and services continued.

On October 9, 1937, the last priest, hieromonk Pakhomiy Sergeev, was arrested, after which the church was sold to the collective farm named after Zhdanov and used as a grain warehouse. No official decision was made to liquidate the church.

The church was destroyed after the 1960s, and in its place, a brick single-domed chapel was built in 2000.
