The village of Rubchaila is located in the Prjazhinsky district, just 6 km from the settlement of Essoyla. It represents an interesting natural-architectural ensemble that attracts the attention of scholars. The village emerged in the 18th century. In the 1720s, there were only seven households here, which increased to ten after nearly half a century, and by 1905, the number of households had grown to twelve, with a population of 86.

Historically, the village has formed a picturesque composition of several rows of houses oriented in different directions. This occurred due to attempts to implement a new master plan for construction. In 1909, a land surveyor from Petrozavodsk, B.V. Bekesh, developed a plan that did not take local features into account, leading to resistance from the peasants. As a result, some of the old houses remained oriented with their facades to the south, following the ancient Karelian tradition, while others faced the road, and some were built according to Bekesh's plan. This diversity in construction distinguishes Rubchaila from other settlements.

Despite such construction, the village retains its traditional Karelian appearance. This is aided by the cemetery grove with tall pines and spruces in the center of the village. In the grove stands the Chapel of John the Baptist, built in the second half of the 20th century.

The chapel is entirely wooden, with an intricately carved covered porch at the entrance. The building is topped with a gable roof and a six-pointed cross at the peak. Currently, the chapel is not in use but is under the care of the local church administration.
