The chapel, designed in the neo-Russian style, attracts attention with its picturesque volumetric composition. It is crowned with a five-domed structure consisting of a tall four-sided tent with a massive central dome and four smaller domes located at the cardinal points. The iron roof is styled to resemble shingles. The chapel was erected in 1913 with the blessing of Archbishop Anthony of Tver and Kashin in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. The funds for the construction were allocated by the Orsha Ascension Monastery, located 20 versts from Tver. The archimandrite of this monastery, Joseph, signed the decree for the election of Mikhail Romanov to the throne in 1613. The initiative for the construction belonged to the abbess Sergia. In 1903, the monastery changed its status from a male to a female dormitory. The Tver City Duma supported the abbess's request and provided a plot for the chapel free of charge between the Konyayevskaya railway line and the station highway.

The chapel's project was developed by engineer P.F. Bogomolov. After the 1917 revolution, the chapel was closed and used as a kerosene shop and a souvenir store. In 1990, the chapel was consecrated in the name of the righteous John of Kronstadt, and the restoration was carried out according to the project of A.I. Kustov.
