The healing holy spring is located near a correctional facility. Originally, before the monastery was founded, it was called Atamansky Spring, in honor of the nearby Ataman Mountain. According to legend, in 1853, two residents of the village of Sukhorechka, located near Buzuluk, while walking in the vicinity, heard the sound of bells. The area was deserted, and there were no churches nearby. These were Loskutov and Gnedyshev. Later, they heard the ringing in the same place near Ataman Mountain several times. Being deeply religious, they took this as a sign from above, dug caves here, and settled in them, spending their time in labor and prayer. Thus, the Spaso-Transfiguration Men's Monastery was founded, which was located on the site of the current Educational Colony, 5 km northeast of Buzuluk. The official opening of the monastery took place on October 4, 1853.

In 1856, with donations from Bishop of Samara Eusebius and the Governor-General of Orenburg Count V.A. Perovsky, a chapel of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Life-Giving Spring' was built. People from different classes came even from distant places to order a prayer service with water consecration before the especially revered icon and to moisten sick places with holy water in hopes of healing. Chroniclers noted that many received healing through faith.

According to the memories of the old-timers, there were several springs in the vicinity. Near the garden, there was a chapel where a spring gushed forth. The monastery had a bathhouse, and outsiders were not allowed in. The place was very beautiful, with many lilacs and flowers, and beyond the monastery wall began an oak forest, creating an atmosphere of a true resort.

During the years of anti-religious authority, the chapel over the healing spring, like many other things, was destroyed. In our time, on the site of the chapel with the bathhouse and the life-giving spring, a small swamp and a pile of construction debris have formed. In 2006, with the blessing of Bishop Valentin, a chapel of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Life-Giving Spring' was rebuilt over the healing spring at the walls of the colony, a bright brick octagon with a small dome and a golden-blue cupola. Once again, people come to the chapel with faith and hope for healing.
