On September 22, 2008, the chapel of St. Andrew Cathedral in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was laid. The solemn service was conducted by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, who a month before his death expressed hope that the foundation of the chapel would be the first step towards the restoration of St. Andrew's Church. The chapel was built quickly and consecrated on November 1, 2009.

The brick single-domed chapel in the neoclassical style is located in the northwest corner of the former fence of St. Andrew Cathedral. The yellow building is topped with a dome and a cross. The altar wall is adorned with a mosaic icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God, the patroness of northern Russian cities. The entrance is located in the front portico.

Despite its small size, the chapel is spacious inside and can accommodate up to 30 people. The white gilded three-tiered iconostasis was designed and executed under the guidance of architect Grigory Tkachenko. The iconographic works were carried out by Andrey Belyaev, who created 19 icons in the academic style for the chapel, including 14 icons for the iconostasis, the altar image "Resurrection," the icon of St. Righteous John of Kronstadt, the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, paired icons of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, as well as St. Matrona of Moscow and St. Xenia of St. Petersburg.

In the chapel, there is a plaque that reads: "The iconostasis of the chapel of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was donated by Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya, a witness to its destruction in 1931. The chapel was recreated in the year of the 100th anniversary of the repose of St. Righteous John of Kronstadt with the charitable and heartfelt assistance of Olga Rostropovich. 01.11.2009."

On the gilded analogion is the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. Above the narthex, there is a choir accessed by a spiral staircase. One of the chapel's attractions is the icon depicting St. John of Kronstadt against the backdrop of Kronstadt, holding St. Andrew Cathedral in his hand. This icon was specially painted for the year of remembrance of John of Kronstadt, was kept on Mount Athos, and then made a long journey through many Russian churches.

The chapel of St. Andrew Cathedral in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was erected in memory of the St. Andrew Cathedral, which was destroyed by the Bolsheviks, where St. Righteous John of Kronstadt served for 53 years. Unfortunately, the cathedral has still not been restored, but the chapel serves as a reminder of it, and perhaps the hopes of the late Patriarch Alexy II will still come true.
