Today, the Municipal Autonomous Institution represents a unique museum, the history of which began thanks to the initiative of a group of enthusiasts. They gradually collected exhibits of historical value. The museum's work focuses on various types of museum communication: scientific research, scientific collections, scientific exhibitions, and educational activities. However, the key areas remain exhibition and local history activities. Since 2004, the museum has hosted the Russian scientific conference "Menshikov Readings" and the district children's local history conference "From Local History to Love for the Land" every two years. The next "Menshikov Readings" are scheduled for November 2021 and will be held in person.

In 2019, the museum celebrated its 40th anniversary since its opening. In 2020, the museum team focused on preparing a collection for the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, dedicated to the warriors from the indigenous peoples of the North, as well as organizing exhibitions, lectures, and a museum living room.

As of January 1, 2021, the museum had 24,701 storage units, of which 19,730 belong to the main fund. In 2019, 52 exhibitions were held, 38 of which opened during the year.

In 2019, the museum was visited by 19,956 people, including 346 foreigners. In 2020, 73 events were held online, gathering 19,642 views.

In December 2020, the museum expanded, incorporating a new structural unit.
