On Moscow Street, in the shade of tall trees, lies one of the most interesting museums in the city, the local history museum, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017. The Azov museum complex is among the top ten largest museums in southern Russia and is known as a center for archaeological research. Its collection boasts over 360,000 exhibits, many of which are unique on a global scale.

This museum combines history, paleontology, archaeology, and art. A particular pride is the skeletons of the dinotherium, which inhabited the Azov region over 8 million years ago, as well as mammoths and the Caucasian elasmotherium. In addition to the paleontological collection, the museum is famous for archaeological finds that reflect the culture of the peoples of the Don region throughout different eras. Here, you can see the gear of Khazar warriors, Greek amphorae, and Norman bracelets. A special place is occupied by the exhibition showcasing the golden treasures of nomads, Scythian artifacts, and weaponry.

The museum also features types of weapons used by Cossacks and the Russian army. By visiting it, you can familiarize yourself with the history of artillery from past centuries, as it houses a rich collection of artillery pieces, starting from the times of the Azov siege, including rare specimens such as a cannon from a Venetian galley. Samples of Cossack and imperial army uniforms are also on display.
