In Volgograd, on Avtotransportnaya Street, an unusual monument has been erected, the ZIS-5 car. This creation of the famous architect E.I. Levitan, alongside his other works such as "Lighthouse", the Main Post Office, "Victory", and the Medical University, is dedicated to the motorists of the Battle of Stalingrad and the Great Patriotic War.

The ZIS-5, also known as the famous "Katyusha", was a true workhorse that bore the brunt of frontline life. It transported soldiers, ammunition, weapons, the wounded, and the dead, enduring the hot summers and cold winters. This simple and unpretentious vehicle ran on low-grade gasoline, lacked a rich dashboard and cabin heating, and often forgot what a road was, treating any stretch of land before it as a path. The ZIS-5 became a symbol of Victory, sharing this status with the "one-and-a-half". It faithfully served in the war, on construction sites, and in fields from the 1930s to the 1960s.

The monument was unveiled on May 8, 1985, for the fortieth anniversary of Victory. The car is mounted on a massive concrete pedestal that lifts it high. This machine was indeed used on the roads of Stalingrad and belonged to the "Torgtrans" enterprise for a long time. However, the question of whether it participated in the Battle of Stalingrad remains unanswered. After being decommissioned, it stood in a garage for a long time before being transformed into a monument.

Previously, there was a metal plaque on the pedestal, but it was stolen in the 1990s. In 2008, after restoration, a modern marble plaque was installed.
