At the end of the 17th and in the 18th centuries, on the northern border of the Maiden Field, by the banks of the Moscow River, as in other places beyond the Earthen City, there were wealthy country estates. Over time, they fell into the hands of manufacturers who organized large industrial enterprises in these premises.

From the late 1870s, the building at Bolshoy Savvinsky Lane, property No. 8, was occupied by the Society for the Dissemination of Technical Knowledge, which opened a secondary mechanical-technical school there. The rapidly developing industry needed qualified specialists, so the Society acquired a plot between two large factories: to the right was the wool factory of the "Partnership of Brothers V. and N. Ganeshins," and to the left, the "Partnership of the Calico Factory of Albert Gyubner."

By 1880, on the site of the current building 8, structure 5, there stood a one-story stone building for the steam engine of the textile factory, which has survived to this day as a semi-basement space. Later, the building was raised by two wooden floors according to the design of architect S.I. Arkhangelsky. These floors were intended for the apartment of the director and inspector of the Crafts and Technical School of the Society. During the Soviet era, a technical school was located in the building, and now it houses administrative offices.

The building has a rectangular shape. The northeast wall is made as a stone fire wall and adjoins the neighboring one-story building numbered 6. The main facade has six axes, the side five. From the courtyard side, there is a staircase leading to a two-story volume on a stone foundation with a porch. The wooden part of the building is clad in plank siding. The northeast and southwest facades are adorned with carvings in the "Neo-Russian style": window frames, cornices, and undercornices. The courtyard facade lacks architectural decoration. The original layout and interiors have not survived.

In modern Moscow, especially in the center, it is rare to encounter a preserved wooden house. Therefore, despite its simplicity and utilitarian nature, the building on Bolshoy Savvinsky Lane represents a valuable asset.
