In 1895, a spacious merchant house was built on the current Chekhov Street, belonging to Madame Chizhov. Despite its impressive size, the building was single-story.
After the revolution, the Soviet authorities requisitioned the house, and it became state property. Today, this building houses the Don Estuary Hydrometeorological Station, and the structure itself is protected as an object of architectural heritage of regional significance in the Rostov region.
