This is one of the few surviving buildings constructed in the southeast of Moscow in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The customs house is an example of industrial eclecticism, characteristic of the period of active development of manufacturing in the capital. The exact date of construction is unknown.

It is believed that the building was originally used as a warehouse. According to other sources, it served as the premises for the wool manufacturing of the first guild merchants, the Alexeevs. The structure was first marked on maps in 1852, and in the 1880s it became the property of the Moscow warehouse customs after the construction and connection of the Nizhny Novgorod and Nikolayev railways, now part of the Gorky direction of the Moscow railway.

It is likely that the house was built near an important transport route of the late 18th century, connecting Moscow with Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod. At that time, the area on the left bank of the Yauza was actively developed with factories and manufacturing. The customs building is currently under the jurisdiction of the Federal Agency for State Reserves (Rosrezerv).
