The building of the Don Musical Pedagogical College, formerly a women's gymnasium, is considered one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of pre-revolutionary Azov, executed in the late baroque style. The history of this building begins in the early 20th century and is connected with the Timmerman family, who arrived in Azov in 1901. After the death of Nikolai Timmerman, a wealthy landowner, in 1903, his wife Larisa Timmerman donated part of the funds for the construction of the city hospital and women's gymnasium, which were erected in the city center.

This building housed a women's gymnasium for over ten years, which was temporarily closed after the first arrival of the Bolsheviks in the city. It resumed operations during the rule of Ataman Krasnov but was ultimately closed after the arrival of the Red Army. In 1931, it became home to an agricultural pedagogical technical school with a three-year training period. Six years later, in 1937, the technical school was renamed a pedagogical college, becoming one of the cultural centers of the North Caucasus. Today, the musical pedagogical college is one of the oldest educational institutions.
