One of the monuments of pre-revolutionary architecture in Kronstadt is the building of the former guardhouse, erected in 1840 in the classical style. The name of the architect who developed the project is unknown today.

Until 1898, the building was under the jurisdiction of the Naval Ministry. In the late 19th century, under the guidance of city architect N. A. Dolbinsky, it was reconstructed and transformed into the Kronstadt Civil Prison. During the Soviet period, the building came under the control of a military unit, which it remains part of today.

Despite several reconstructions, the building has retained its original appearance. It is a two-story plastered structure of rectangular shape. Its modest facade is adorned with several decorative pediments and relief window frames. The cornice running along the entire perimeter of the building is decorated with small stucco elements.
