Nowadays, few in the general audience of moviegoers and readers know that the outstanding actor, director, and writer Vasily Makarovich Shukshin worked at a turbine factory in Kaluga before his military service. Today, the building of this factory, where the future genius of cinema toiled, has been preserved and is considered a monument to Shukshin's time in the city. Local residents remember this and have immortalized Vasily Makarovich's connection to Kaluga by installing a memorial plaque on the facade of the factory management building on Moskovskaya Street. The opening ceremony was attended by current factory employees, veterans of the enterprise, representatives of the regional government, and local residents.
