One of the most famous burials in Azov was the grave of the outstanding philanthropist Larisa Vasilievna Timmerman, who was buried in the courtyard of the Assumption Church, which was later destroyed by the Bolsheviks. The cemetery where she was buried also disappeared, and the name of this remarkable benefactor faded from the city's history for a long time. Only in our time did residents learn that her funds were used to build the former women's gymnasium in Azov, although this is just a small part of her charitable deeds.

Larisa Vasilievna Timmerman passed away on April 22, 1905, while on a pilgrimage in Kyiv. Her body was brought to Azov for burial. At the time of her death, she was 66 years old. After a long period of oblivion, her name regained significance in the history of the city she loved, and in May 2016, a gravestone and monument were installed at the presumed site of her burial in the presence of many people.
