The name of the famous Russian jeweler of German descent, Carl Fabergé, is known worldwide; however, in Russia, the attitude towards the architectural heritage associated with outstanding figures of the past leaves much to be desired. Today we will tell you about the villa of Carl Fabergé, built over a hundred years ago, but now neglected and rapidly deteriorating.

The villa of Carl Fabergé is a mansion with a stone wing, laid in 1901 and completed in 1909. Construction was periodically interrupted but then resumed according to the new wishes of the owner. The project was developed by the outstanding architect and representative of Russian Germans, Carl Schmidt. In 1901, he erected a wooden mansion, and in 1909, he rebuilt it in stone at the request of the new owner of the estate, Agafon Fabergé, who received the estate as a gift from his father in 1907.

The villa from 1909 is more presentable and significant in terms of architectural value. It is executed in the Art Nouveau style with elements of classicism, featuring granite columns and a magnificent grand staircase, while the spacious hall once amazed with its splendor. The level of architecture and decoration was so high that the villa was nicknamed the 'Small Hermitage.'

Unfortunately, after the Bolsheviks came to power, the former owners lost their property, and the villa was abandoned. The once beautiful garden has overgrown with weeds, evoking pity instead of admiration, and the wooden part of the villa has burned down. However, the stone part of the building still remains along with its magnificent decorations, such as the marble staircase and fireplaces adorned with tiles. How much longer the villa will stand in this condition is hard to say, but without proper restoration, this wonder may disappear.
