The Yusupov family was one of the wealthiest in the Russian Empire and produced many outstanding individuals. Among them stands out the social beauty Zinaida Ivanovna Yusupova. Today I will tell you about the life of this remarkable woman, born on November 2, 1809, into the Naryshkin family. Her parents held high positions in society: her father, Ivan Dmitrievich, was a chamberlain to Empress Catherine the Second, and her mother, Varvara Nikolaevna, was the illegitimate daughter of Ivan Rimsky-Korsakov. They provided their daughter with a proper upbringing, and she became a suitable match for the widowed 32-year-old Prince Boris Nikolaevich Yusupov, whom she married in 1826.

The Yusupov wedding was a significant event, although it was not without incidents: Boris Nikolaevich hurriedly forgot to take the blessing and had to return home. Their family life turned out to be unhappy: they had two children, but their daughter soon died. Over time, disagreements arose between the spouses, leading to a de facto separation. In 1849, Boris Yusupov died, leaving Zinaida a vast inheritance. She spent most of her remaining life abroad, where she married French captain Sene Louis Charles Honoré Chovaux. Zinaida outlived her second husband, who died in 1889, and she herself passed away on October 16, 1893, and was buried in France. All her inheritance passed to her great-grandson, Prince Felix Felixovich Yusupov, the last bearer of the surname, who later played an important role in the history of the decline of the Russian Empire.

In her youth, Zinaida was known for her beauty and popularity, and in later years, many legends circulated about her. During the Soviet era, a story spread about a coffin allegedly found in her house in a secret room, where the body of a man was located. Felix Yusupov, upon learning of this, confirmed the strange sensations he felt in that place, but it is impossible to confirm or deny this story; it remains in the realm of legends.
