One of the monuments of pre-revolutionary architecture in old Yalta is the hotel complex 'Metropol', consisting of two buildings located in the city center on Botkinskaya Street. These buildings were erected in 1902 according to the design of architect Oskar Emilevich Wegener. In pre-revolutionary times, the 'Metropol' hotel was considered the best in Yalta and one of the best in the region. It was here, in the early 20th century, that a formal dinner was held for the participants of the ceremony marking the laying of the foundation of the new Livadia royal palace, which was being built for Nicholas II by architect Nikolai Krasnov.

After the revolution, both buildings were confiscated from their rightful owners. Currently, they are in a deplorable state: the plaster has long fallen off, the roof leaks, and the once-famous garden has overgrown.
