Local History Museum Exhibition Hall in Syzran

Фото 1
The city exhibition hall of Syzran was opened as a museum in 1983. It is a branch of the local history museum and is located in the mansion of merchant Chernukhin, which is a monument of early 20th-century architecture.

The Chernukhin mansion was built between 1908 and 1910. Martinian Vasilyevich Chernukhin, a first-guild merchant and local entrepreneur in the flour milling industry, was respected in the city. He was a patron who supported the construction of churches and the development of educational institutions, and he also served as a member of the City Duma.

After the arrival of Soviet power, various government institutions were located in the building. By 1980, the building had deteriorated, and it was planned for demolition. However, thanks to the efforts of local cultural figures, a decision was made to restore it and transfer it to the local history museum.

Today, the exhibition hall features displays such as recreated interiors of merchant parlors, an art gallery, and an exhibition of decorative and applied arts.
