In 2017, as part of the program 'Heritage of Russia. Traditions for the Future', the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Applied and Folk Art declared the year 'Russian Style'. During this period, the museum presented a new permanent exhibition 'Russian Style. From Historicism to Modernism' in the main building of the Osterman estate.

The goal of the new exhibition is not only to showcase the unique collections of the museum but also to reveal the concept of 'Russian Style' in the context of European art. The exhibition demonstrates how the stylistics of the Russian style was formed in comparison with European artistic processes that developed the national-romantic direction of modernism in different countries, such as 'Art Nouveau' in France and Belgium, 'Modern' in England, 'Jugendstil' in Germany, and 'Secession' in Austria. This is explained in the introductory hall of the exhibition.

In the central halls of the main house of the Osterman estate, there is an exhibition dedicated to the development of the Russian style in decorative applied art. It covers the period from 'historicism' of the 1830s-1870s to the 'Neo-Russian style', an important part of Russian modernism at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

The exhibition includes works made of wood, metal, glass, ceramics, as well as interior items, graphics, samples of fabrics, costumes, prints, and toys. These exhibits demonstrate the evolution of the Russian style from the use of motifs of folk and ancient Russian art in the era of 'historicism' to the creative interpretation of the national-romantic direction by artists such as Viktor Vasnetsov, Elena Polenova, Alexander Golovin, Sergey Malyutin, and Nikolai Roerich, and their transformation into a new plastic system of Russian modernism.
