The stone church in honor of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with chapels dedicated to Archangel Michael (on the right) and the Three Holy Hierarchs, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom (on the left), was built in Peshe Sloboda in 1767. It was located in the square between Upper Peshe Street (Kuibyshev) and Middle Peshe Street (Bogdanov). Previously, there were two old wooden churches on this site: a cemetery church in honor of Archangel Michael, first mentioned in 1677, and the Vvedenskaya church located nearby. It is known that in 1680 the Archangel church was destroyed by the Nogais during their attack on Penza, but it was soon restored. By 1721, it had fallen into disrepair again, and the soldiers of Peshe Sloboda were tasked with building a new church. When the wooden Vvedenskaya church appeared is unknown. However, since the Archangel church was the first, this name became established among the people, and even after the construction of the stone Vvedenskaya church, it was more often referred to as the Archangel church. In 1831-1832, the chapels of the stone Vvedenskaya church were expanded and consecrated anew, and in 1851, the refectory was lengthened at the expense of the watchman's and storeroom's premises adjacent to the bell tower.
