The Ascension Military All-Cossack Patriarchal Cathedral in Novocherkassk is an Orthodox church and the second cathedral of the Rostov and Novocherkassk diocese, as well as the main church of the Don Cossacks. Since 2014, it has held the status of the patriarchal cathedral of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus.

The cathedral houses the remains of outstanding Don military leaders: Ataman of the Don Cossack Army Count Matvey Platov, Vasily Orlov-Denisov, Ivan Yefremov, and Yakov Baklanov.

Before the founding of Novocherkassk, the main church of the Don Army was the Resurrection Military Cathedral in Cherkassk.

The Ascension Cathedral was laid and consecrated in 1805, on the day of the Ascension of the Lord, when the city of Novocherkassk was founded.

The construction and decoration of the church were completed in 1904, but its consecration and opening took place only on May 6, 1905.

After the completion of the cathedral, in connection with the approaching 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, on October 4 (17), 1911, the remains of Cossack military heroes were reburied with honors in the new burial vault in the lower church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin: Ataman of the Don Cossack Army Count General M. I. Platov, Count General V. V. Orlov-Denisov, General I. E. Yefremov, and hero of the Caucasian wars General Y. P. Baklanov.

During the Soviet period, the gilded copper covering was removed from the domes, and there were plans to cover them with iron, but this was not done for a long time, and the building was subjected to weather conditions, being flooded and covered with snow. The heating system failed. In 1934, the cathedral was closed, and the building was used as a warehouse.

The cathedral was reopened in 1942 during the German occupation. In the post-war years, the basements housed a food warehouse, while church services continued above.
