The Volsk Local History Museum, one of the largest provincial museums in Russia, was founded in 1920. Its collections amaze with their diversity and richness. The museum's fund holds over 93 thousand exhibits. Among them are collections on geology and paleontology, botany and zoology, archaeology and numismatics, as well as cold and firearms from the 17th to 20th centuries, painting, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, rare books, and household items from the same periods.
Each year, about 40 thousand people visit the museum, over a thousand excursions are conducted, and at least 10 exhibitions are organized. The museum staff actively participate in historical-ethnographic and archaeological expeditions, meet interesting people, which allows them to combine various directions in the collection, collecting, and study of exhibits. Thanks to this work, relevant exhibitions are created that are in demand by the times, and participation in Russian and international projects is carried out in cities such as Saratov, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Brussels.
The museum also organizes cultural and educational events and develops educational programs for various visitor groups. Lectures are constantly held, clubs and salons operate, and active journalistic activities are conducted.
