The Church of All Saints in the village of Tudeley, located in Kent, is unique in that it is the only cathedral in the world where all the windows are adorned with stained glass by Marc Chagall. Since the artist began working on the stained glass for the Hadassah hospital synagogue in Jerusalem, he had been searching for a church where he could design all the windows.

In 1963, Sir and Lady David Goldsmith approached Chagall with a request to create a stained glass window in memory of their daughter Sarah, who tragically passed away at the age of 21. Their choice was not accidental: Sarah admired Chagall's talent and was impressed by the designs of the Hadassah windows that she saw at an exhibition in the Louvre in 1961.

Chagall personally visited Tudeley to install the stained glass in the east window of the church. He was struck by the fact that, unlike the Hadassah synagogue, which was illuminated by artificial light, the British church was lit by natural light, and the stained glass would change depending on the time of day. Over the next 15 years, collaborating with Charles, Chagall created 11 more stained glass windows for the Church of All Saints. The artist noted that the inspiration for these works was given to him by Psalm 8, verses 4 and 8.
