Today we will talk about the Grand Duke's estate 'Mikhailovka', founded in 1858 on the order of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich. The first lands for the younger son of Emperor Nicholas I were acquired as early as 1834, when Mikhail Nikolaevich was only two years old. Some areas already had various buildings, and the original appearance of the estate remained unchanged for some time. However, the emperor sought to create a residence for his son, inviting the renowned court architect Andrei Ivanovich Shtakenshneider. By 1850, the project for the two wings of the Mikhailovsky Palace was ready, and its implementation was entrusted to Iosif Iosifovich Sharleman.

By the time large-scale construction began, a greenhouse and a gardener's house had already been built by Andrei Ivanovich Shtakenshneider himself. The reason he did not engage in the construction of the palace remains unknown. However, Iosif Iosifovich Sharleman also soon left the project at the insistence of the court minister Altenberg, after which the 24-year-old Grand Duke chose architect Harald Bosse for further work. The palace was laid in 1858, and construction was successfully completed in May 1862. The Grand Duke was pleased with the result and often visited his new palace. In addition to the two palace wings, the estate included many utility buildings, as well as beautiful fountains and a garden.

After the arrival of Soviet power, the estate was turned into a colony for juvenile delinquents and soon fell into disrepair. After World War II, a poultry farm was established on the estate's territory, and later it came under the management of a factory. Currently, the remnants of the once magnificent estate are under state protection, but restoration work is not being carried out.
