On September 5, it has been seventy years since the passing of Grand Duchess Milica Nikolaevna, born a Montenegrin princess and wife of Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich.

The future Grand Duchess of Russia was born on July 26, 1866, in Cetinje to Montenegrin prince Nikola Petrovich-Njegos and his wife Milena Vukotic.

In 1889, she married Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich, and they had four children.

After emigrating, the Grand Duchess lived in France, Italy, and Egypt. In her final years, she resided in Alexandria, where she settled with her sister, Italian Queen Elena, at the Villa Yela, provided by Egyptian King Farouk. Despite her declining health, she maintained her resilience, preferring to indulge in memories of the past. It was here that the Grand Duchess passed away, far from Russia and Montenegro. For her funeral, King Farouk sent a representative. The coffin with Milica Nikolaevna's body, covered with the Russian national flag, was transported by sea to Cannes, where she found peace next to her husband in the Russian Church of Archangel Michael.
