The museum in the village of Ust-Kalman was founded in 1975 as a local history museum, thanks to the efforts of veterans, teachers, and students of the local school who collected the exhibits. In 1977, it received the status of a district local history museum. Its collections hold more than 3,500 items, including traditional peasant clothing, household utensils, women's handicrafts, and other everyday items.

Of particular interest is the collection dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War, which contains authentic documents and photographs. The museum also features materials on the history of the local butter and cheese factory, as well as a collection of cameras and photographic equipment from the 20th century. The exhibitions include: "The History of Ust-Kalman District from Settlement to the Present Day," "Peasant Hut" with over 300 household items from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, "Hall of Military Glory," and "Nature of the District," which showcases more than 50 stuffed birds and animals.
