Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir

Фото 1
The Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir is an Orthodox church and the cathedral of the Vladimir Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. Today, it also functions as a state museum and is an outstanding example of white stone architecture from pre-Mongol Rus. Before Moscow became the center, the cathedral was the main church of Vladimir-Suzdal Rus, where the coronation ceremonies for the grand princes of Vladimir and Moscow took place. This monument of Russian architecture from the 12th century became a model for many later cathedrals, including the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. The cathedral has preserved original frescoes created by Andrei Rublev.
