On July 15, 2016, during a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church chaired by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the report of Archbishop Theognost of Sergiev Posad was reviewed. He heads the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism. The report contained requests for the opening of new monasteries and the appointment of their abbesses.

At the request of Bishop Nikita of Kozelsk and Lyudinovo, the Holy Synod decided to open the women's monastery Uspenskaya Feklina Desert in the village of Senino, Kozelsk District, Kaluga Region, appointing nun Vitalia (Kochetova) as its abbess.

On August 28, 2016, on the day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, the monastery was solemnly opened. On this day, Bishop Nikita conducted the Divine Liturgy in the newly opened monastery.

The monastery is located twenty kilometers from the Vvedensky Stavropegial Men's Monastery Optina Pustyn and is the first women's monastery in the new Kozelsk Diocese.

More than thirty sisters live in the monastery, caring for a shelter that provides refuge and care for sick and elderly nuns. Services are held several times a week, and daily the sisters read the daily cycle of services. The monastery has a livestock yard, a bee yard, gardens, and vegetable plots.

Restoration is underway for the three-altar church in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God, a monument of 19th-century architecture, which was closed in 1928 and partially destroyed during the Soviet era. The church housed a school, a warehouse, a forge, and a repair and mechanical workshop for the collective farm.

To date, the altar in the Uspensky Church has been completed, the dome restored, the church cleared of debris, and preparations for restoration are underway.

Additionally, the first church in Russia in honor of Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles First Martyr Fekla, a disciple of the Apostle Paul, revered in the ancient Church and in the Holy Land, Greece, and Cyprus, has been erected in the monastery. This is the first monastery in Russia consecrated in her honor.
