The estate belonged to the noble family of Venivitinovs. Here, the future Russian poet and philosopher of the 19th century, Dmitry Venivitinov, spent his childhood. He was a fourth cousin of A.S. Pushkin and became the prototype for Vladimir Lensky in "Eugene Onegin." The house combined constructive and decorative elements of Baroque and Classicism. Its overall appearance was close to modern: an elongated building with a balcony on the main facade. On the northern side, part of the mezzanine has been preserved, from where the poet likely admired the view of the park, fruit orchards, and the Don River.

Other notable figures are also associated with the estate, such as historian and archaeologist Mikhail Venivitinov, Dmitry Venivitinov's nephew, as well as English writer and composer Ethel Lilian Voynich, author of the famous novel "The Gadfly." She worked for the Venivitinov family from 1887 for two years as a governess and teacher of music and English.

After the 1917 revolution, the last owner of the estate, Alexei Vladimirovich Venivitinov, left Russia with his family and moved to England via Constantinople. The furniture, dishes, paintings, and household items from the estate were distributed among various Soviet institutions in Voronezh. In 1939, a children's home was established in the building, housing children from Spain and orphans. In the first months of the Great Patriotic War, a military unit was stationed at the estate. From 1943 to 1979, a rural school was located in the main house of the estate. Restoration work only began in 1988.
