Opening Date and History

Geographer N.N. Mikhailov notes that once along the banks of the Yauza, among the artisan settlements, there were country estates supplying strawberries and apples to the court. It was in this picturesque place that the construction of the estate complex for tea merchants Vasily and Peter Usachev began in 1829 under the guidance of architect Domenico Giliardi. 'High Mountains' became a vivid example of Russian classicism. Peter Usachev, being an avid gardener, created a park with great taste and expertise.

Description

The 'High Mountains' estate is one of Moscow's gems, preserving elements of noble life: a cozy mansion, outbuildings, and an extensive garden-park complex. Today at the entrance to the estate, you can see two plaques: one indicates the location of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Sports Medicine, and the other states that this is an architectural monument, the urban estate of the Usachevs-Naidenovs, built by Domenico Giliardi in 1829-1836.

In the very center of Moscow, amidst the noise and dust of the Garden Ring, it is hard to believe that there is a quiet corner here. In the old park on the high bank of the Yauza stand sculptures, and cozy pavilions and a grotto evoke romantic thoughts. The old house with columns and porticos, adorned with vases and lions, transports one to the past, making one forget about the 21st century and the big city.

Owners and Significant Figures

After the Usachevs, in the early 20th century, the estate was owned by Alexandra Khlyudova, daughter of Gerasim Khlyudov, who was married to A.A. Naidenov. Alexander Alexandrovich was the younger brother of Nikolai Naidenov, owner of the neighboring Naidenov estate since the early 19th century. The estate was demolished in the 1960s during the construction of the roadway along the banks of the Yauza and the reconstruction of the Vysokoyauzsky Bridge.

Nikolai Naidenov left a significant mark in the history of Moscow local studies, thanks to him we can see old Moscow in photographs collected in the famous Naidenov albums.

Before the revolution, the 'High Mountains' estate was owned by the Naidenov relatives, and later it became popular with Moscow healthcare, housing a tuberculosis dispensary and other medical institutions.

Many films were shot on the estate's territory, including 'The Star of Captivating Happiness' and 'Pokrovsky Gates.'
